Hotel Comodoro is a large complex that rises facing the sea in the residential neighborhood of Miramar, where most embassies and business offices are. The hotel is in fact across the street from Miramar Trade Center and not far from Palacio de las Convenciones de Cuba- Havana’s international conference center- therefore location is ideal for business, not so ideal for holidays (not many tourist atrractions in the area).
The hotel is composed of a main building and 158 bungalows built about a nice pool that is surrounded by tropical gardens.
Hotel Comodoro also features its private little beach, which is really more of a natural pool of sea water protected by a pier. Although very small, it can be fun for children and perfect for a quick refresh.
On one side of the hotel there’s a big shopping mall with many kinds of different stores including a pharmacy, grocery store, toys…
Despite all these many pluses that could make Hotel Comodoro into a great business / family hotel, it is not, unfortunately. Maintenance leaves much to desire; service is nothing to write home about, and renovation works are slow and currently making the stay less fortunate for many of its guests.
Rooms are spacious and many of the ones in the main building overlook the sea. It’s a shame that so many are still very dated, in spite of renovations (although it really depends a lot on the room you are assigned); that not all elevators and air conditioners work; that water is sometimes intermittent in the rooms, and hot water not so frequent…there are many issues that hopefully will be fixed soon but in the meantime, keep your expectations very low.
