Hotel Authentique San Basilio has a privileged location on the street of the same name, just minutes away from Parque Céspedes, Santiago's main square and the city's heart, and therefore within walking distance to most of the city’s attractions.
The mansion that houses the hotel dates from the second decade of the 20th century and stands out for its facade, ample windows and fine ironwork. It has been beautifully restored and its interiors are decorated in harmony with the architecture.
Its 8 rooms are elegant, charming, with vintage furniture, nice bathrooms, curtains and bed covers. Not all have windows though.
There is also a small reception and a bar at the entrance, a breakfast room and kitchen, and 2 tiny inner courtyards with Moorish tiles and plants.
This boutique hotel, like most hotels of its type, is not very large and are normally set in beautiful houses or palaces once owned by important Cuban families. They have all been consciously restored and tastefully furnished, which makes them very popular among visitors.
A perfect base for exploring Santiago de Cuba if one appreciates simple accommodation and old buildings- in the very center of the city but on a quiet street, which enables guests to plunge into the real life and peculiar rhythm and atmosphere of Cuba's second largest city.
