This famous street formed by a set of steps embodies a symbol of the city of Santiago de Cuba. These ascending lanes are pretty common in the town of Santiago as they constitute the solution found by urbanists in order to deal with the region’s characteristic sinuous relief; however the most famous of all is without a doubt this short street of the mounting stairs.
Its construction began in 1899 but it was officially inaugurated in 1903. The flight of steps of Father Pico Street has altogether 52 steps, grouped in 13 sets of 4 steps each and 12 landings.
