The Hotel Playa Giron is part of the Ciénaga de Zapata Tourist Pole, in the south of Matanzas'province.
It is located in the Zapata Peninsula, in the Montemar Natural Park, which was one of the most important ecosystems in Cuba, complemented by the largest wetland in the Caribbean islands in a green destination par excellence.
The hotel is housed in a beautiful setting, rich in a variety of flora and fauna, endemic to the area. It is also located within walking distance of Playa Girón, famous for the famous Playa Girón invasion in 1961.
The resort is very close to two beautiful beaches. One is very appropriate for diving because of its transparent waters and submarine areas covered with corals, gorgonians and sponges, and the other one has a rural, calm atmosphere and is perfect for meditation.
Caleta Buena is also a near great place to spend the day: beautiful sea & many places to relax,
The hotel itself is a basic resort looking more like an old village, with several 1 floor houses scattered around. Rooms need to be updated and are very basic, but they are also spacious, kept very clean and featuring all basic amenities. Furnishing is simple, functional and minimal.
There are two pools, a large one and a smaller one located in a quieter area.
Food is plentiful as well as drinks though not of high quality.
Travelers must not expect to find anything else but very basic comfort. But if you are a diver you will enjoy the underwater landscapes and sea life. Nature lovers will find nice spots and beautiful beaches nearby.
Tips:
1- If you mind long walks ask for one room closer to the lobby, but if you prefer to be far from the disco then your house should be along the beach path.
2- Bring insect repellent and a flash light, since some of the bungalows or houses are along a path that is very dark at night.
