Hotel Meliá Cohiba is a twenty-two-story post-modern building rising 50 meters on the corner of the beautiful Paseo avenue and 1st Street, only a few steps from the wonderful Malecón (Havana´s seaside promenade) in El Vedado, a residential neighborhood where magnificent mansions from the beginning of the 20th century coexist with tall buildings from the 50´s.
The Cohiba, named after the famous cigar brand, is strategically situated to explore this area of the city but is also only a few minutes drive from both historical center and business district.
The hotel is very welcoming inside, starting with the large lobby featuring marble floors, spectacular flower arrangements that always keep this space with a fresh and pleasant aroma, and a miniature reproduction of a landscape with its river and bonsai. There are also two elegant bars, various shops, and services like concierge, trip and optionals desk, internet connection, Wi-Fi and currency exchange .
Its 462 fancy rooms offer fabulous views to the sea and/or the city; large, fully equipped bathrooms, and decor comprises huge mirrors, brass lamps, fine furniture and fabrics.
For more demanding guests there is also The Level Service with their own exclusive lobby and personalized services (more details in Hotel Highlights).
There is as well plenty of meeting place for conventions and business conferences featuring modern facilities.
Food is excellent, in particular the impressive breakfast buffet, but there are numerous restaurants including the Havana Café cabaret whose memorabilia evokes Havana of the 1950´s, a sort of Hard Rock Cafe with a Cuban touch.
The swimming pool is one of the most attractive spots: big and inviting, especially after a long sightseeing day, it conveniently has a snack bar and near by a gym, squash courts, beauty saloon…
No doubt this hotel can provide most of the facilities one would expect from a modern hotel, providing also a friendly service and an exceptional location to explore Havana, although it must be said Hotel Cohiba is not within walking distance from the historical center, it is very easy to find transportation from the hotel and it takes 15 minutes to reach Old Havana.
