It is the main necropolis in Havana, and due to its 57 hectares of extension it is considered the largest in America.
Inside this necropolis can be found a great amount of wonderful sculptural and architectural works, which are part of the design of its funeral niches. If you are not a superstitious person and take pleasure in fine arts, you would enjoy a visit to the property of this funerary town, which cultural value has made specialists to place it among the three more valuable in the world.
Just by seeing its main façade, it suggests to the visitor what could be found when entering this place: the arcade is a monument of Carrara marble, 34 meters long and 21 meters high, with magnificent allegories to the theological virtues, charity, faith and hope.
Its foundation was due to the growth of the city to the middle of the XIX century, but it wasn´t until 1886 that it was finished its construction. It was declared a National Monument in 1987.
