Hotel Rancho Luna is an all-inclusive 222 rooms beach hotel that stands between the sea and the mountains, 18km from the city of Cienfuegos.
It is not a modern resort, definitely not sophisticated or chic. The whole property needs an update and especially rooms lack maintenance, which can be noticed in the air conditionings, furniture, doors… But they are clean and ocean views can be enjoyed from some of them.
Food and service are average. Drinks are served in plastic cups and guests sometimes struggle to get a mojito, especially in the weekends, when many locals come making the hotel a bit crowded. During the week though, is peaceful and quiet, perhaps too quiet for some.
Rancho Luna is certainly not a party hotel. There is day and night entertainment as part of the all-inclusive package but most things happen during the day, at the pool and beach. Other than that and the dolphin aquarium there is nothing nearby so perhaps bringing games, books and music is a good idea.
Diving is the main attraction here. The hotel features initiation lessons and there’s a diving center nearby that offers courses and grants certificates. There are about 32 diving sites including caves, sunken ships, profuse marine life and dazzling coral gardens. Also, from November to February harmless whale sharks frequent these waters.
The beach is at short distance and it is nice, but not the plush all white perfect sand kind of beach.
The pool is very nice and eco-friendly, since it is a sea water pool.
Excursions to El Nicho and the city of Trinidad are offered at the tour desk. Recommended!
And a visit to Cienfuegos, which city center was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005, is a must.
Please note that there is a shop that sells water, beer, cola, rum, bathing suits, flip flops and the like. Nowhere else to buy anything hence one should bring everything one could possibly need: beach towels, toiletries, snacks….
