The Grand Memories Cayo Largo hotel is located on one of the most beautiful islands of the Canarreos archipelago in the south of the Island of Cuba, and offers more than 20 km of incredible beaches.
The resort is right on the beach and not very big with only 306 rooms spread among the main building and the bungalows, which makes it easy to get to the beach and anywhere else. It’s not a new hotel and facilities are somewhat tired, but renovations are taking place and the whole place is kept really clean.
The pool is salt water, something many guests appreciate. The beach on the other hand, is narrow with large waves and undertows on some days. It is very beautiful though, with warm waters and fine sands, perfect for walking, admiring the wonderful blue sea while relaxing on a chair, and ideal for guests who love waves.
For those who don´t there are, not far from the hotel, two other stunning and always calm beaches: Playa Sirena and Playa Paradiso.
The first is only 10 minutes by bus and another 10 minutes on a boat shuttle, both for free. The ride is a nice excursion outside the resort plus totally worth it, since the beach is amazing! Crystal clear waters, white sand, and water sports are offered without extra cost.
Playa Paradiso is wonderful too, and only 15 minute away by taxi (you can also get there by sharing a minivan with other guests). Both beaches have a lunch bar where one can buy a beer, a mojito or a light meal.
There are also excursions available at the tour desk, like the sunset catamaran which takes you snorkeling, visiting a natural pool and the Iguana Island + lobster dinner cooked on board while the sun is setting.
And of course the hotel offers day and night entertainment with varied shows. Snorkeling, diving, and classes like Yoga and Tai-Chi are also available.
There is no disco though, so those looking for party would have to go to the marina. It is really a quite resort, with a relaxing atmosphere and a great staff always friendly and trying their best to make everyone happy.
Food wise do expect some shortages; being an island certain things might be in short supply and sometimes not available, like some fruits and drinks. But there is a main buffet plus a restaurant on the beach and two snack bars. So there are options.
