This constitutes the principal collection of architectonically colonial buildings in the city where a present day visitor can view structures boasting the highest degree of preservation that hark back to the olden days of the erstwhile town Villa de Puerto Príncipe.
In it one also finds antique constructions like the Church and the old hospital, both devoted to San Juan de Dios and for such reason both bearing the name of said saint. The San Juan de Dios Hospital is very linked to the life of Friar José Olallo Valdés: distinguished personage of the town during the XIX century due to his labor in service of the poor of the community for which he was beatified by the Vatican, being the sole saint with a direct link to the island of Cuba.
