Featured at its center is a monument built in bronze and granite erected in memory of Cuban patriot Ignacio Agramonte, Camagüey’s foremost independence leader of the first Cuban struggles for freedom against Spain.

It occupies the space of the old Major Square, the site that served as the starting point for the urbanization of the town in the XVI century.

It is practically a de rigueur visiting ground for those arriving for the first time to the city of Camagüey, and its historical center, declared Cultural Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO.
