It occupies the rooms of the Palace Brunet, one of the colonial buildings surrounding the Major Square, in the heart of the historical city center. Just observing the ancient structure itself is a magnificent enjoyment for the visitor because of the admirable state of preservation sustained in a construction that dates back to 1808 and exhibits the Mudéjar and neoclassical influences in the Cuban architecture of the XVIII and XIX centuries.

The institution was inaugurated in 1974 and was the first of its kind in what was by then already a touristic city-museum. In the 14 exhibition halls, the Romantic museum showcases one of the most valuable fine arts collections in Cuba, aside from art works and furniture; collections that were enriched thanks to the personal heirlooms left behind by Trinidad’s own upper class families back in the days of the town’s economic glory.
