It is housed in an old building of eclectic architectural style that since its founding in 1894 and for several decades thereafter hosted the city’s Spanish Casino, a society that gathered the natives of Spain residing in Cienfuegos as well as their descendants. In the ample variety of thematic rooms hosting permanent and transitory exhibitions one can appreciate the aesthetic luxuries the well-to-do families of the zone could indulge in as evidenced by the furniture used in their mansions, the interior decoration, and fine bijouterie.
Also of interest are the numismatic treasures in its collections along with the excellent painting gallery and photo-archive collected as heritage, which constitute valuable examples of the history and culture of the province.
