Presently a Hotel named El Castillo, this fortress is located northeast of the city of Baracoa at about 100 m above sea level. From its position the fortress was able to control the Bay of Baracoa as well as the rest of the city. It was the third building of the defensive system and the most important one. It was declared National Monument in 1978 and has been through several modifications in its architecture with the passing of the years.
