Surrounded by the streets Prado, Zulueta, Neptuno and San José, since the colonial times this park has always been meeting point of the city. It is situated right in front of Obispo Street, which is one of the busiest streets used by travelers when leaving the Historical Center of the city.
Some emblematic buildings of the architecture of Havana are located in the surrounding area of the park, for instance, the Gran Teatro de La Habana and the Capitolio Nacional. It is also surrounded by important hotels of the city like Telégrafo, Plaza and the luxurious Hotel Parque Central, one of the most prestigious hotels in Cuba.
In its center, it is located a monument to the Cuban National Hero, José Martí. The main statue of the monument was the first one dedicated to the hero on the island.
To the south, there is the "esquina caliente", which is place of usual meeting for the fans of baseball, who gather there to discuss and argue about Cuba´s national sport.
