This is the house where Cuban National Hero José Martí was born; it became a museum in 1925 and was declared National Monument in 1949. The house was rescued from oblivion thanks to a public fundraiser to such effect. The site hosts a permanent collection of photos, documents and personal effects of the hero. It is quite common to catch sight of cultural activities involving children in the large lateral patio.
