The Gran Teatro de La Habana is one of the most important cultural institutions in Latin America. It has a variety of spaces that houses theater, concerts, conferences, video projections, visual art galleries, a center for choral music, rehearsal halls for dance, and many more activities.
Its most important space is the Sala García Lorca, in which stage have performed celebrities of the past and present of the universal arts, for instance, the ballerinas Anna Pavlova and Alicia Alonso, the actresses Sarah Bernhart and Eleonora Dusee, the tenor Enrico Carusso and many others.
The Gran Teatro de La Habana has an illustrious antecedent in the cultural history of the island, because in the space where it is located today, used to be situated the legendary Teatro Tacón, which left an important cultural mark in Latin America since its foundation in 1838.
Well known for its magnificent acoustic and architectural beauty, the Sala García Lorca is the usual stage for the presentations of the renowned dance company Ballet Nacional de Cuba.
