It houses the Museum of Cuban Historical Environment, which exhibits a large amount of colonial relics, from furniture and decorations to articles of goldsmithery and silverware.
This house is the oldest in the entire island, given that it was built in the distant 1522 as the official residence of Don Diego Velázquez, Captain General of the Island.
Throughout the course of history the building underwent very dissimilar architectonic periods and was subjected to a variety of construction styles by its different owners: from the purely colonial to Art Nouveau, the latter due to repairs conducted on the ancient dwelling in the XIX century.
