It houses the Provincial Museum of History and its main building was the birthplace of Major General Calixto García, the region’s chief insurgent in the uprising against Spanish dominion over the island.
The colonial mansion was built at the end of the XVIII century and holds a collection of historical documents, photographs and personal relics belonging to important personalities of the province that stood out during the wars of emancipation from colonial rule.
