Located in the Plaza de Armas ( Arms Square) in the historic center of the city, the Castillo de la Real Fuerza is a magnificent example of the military architecture of the Spanish colony in Cuba. In its tower stands the Giraldilla which is the symbol of the city of Havana.
This fortification resisted the British artillery in 1762 and served as a center of organization of the defense of the city.
Currently the Museo Castillo de la Real Fuerza, part of World Heritage since it was thus recognized by UNESCO in 1982.
