These are a series of elevations composed of limestone rock formations, of a height no greater than 130 meters above sea level situated to the north of the territory of Sancti Spiritus, which are generally much appreciated by nature loving visitors touring the area for its wealth of endemic fauna and flora, a highlight being the presence here of several species in danger of extinction.
The sierra is crossed in two sections by the Zaza river, the second largest in the country, leaving in its wake large and picturesque lagoons and backwater pools amidst the rocks.
