This locality belongs to the Granma district of Jiguaní and marks the site where José Martí, the Cuban national hero and apostle of Cuban independence, fell in combat at the hands of Spanish troops on the 19th of May 1895. Right on the spot presumed to be the place where Martí fell in battle rises an obelisk shaped monument, 11 meters high, remembering the event and here, each year due homage is paid in commemoration of the day of his death.
