This is the capital city of the Granma province and that of the largest population size. It was the second settlement founded by the Spanish colonizers in the XVI century and constitutes a township of great historical value to the country, for it was here where the Cuban national anthem was sung for the first time, and as such it is regarded as the Cradle of national identity.
It boasts within its historical city core of a fair amount of buildings dating back to the colonial era, which have been beautifully restored presenting the town with substantial sightseeing appeal for tourists.
