With its 2000 meters in length, the beach Marea del Portillo lies at the mouth of the cove by the Sierra Maestra mountain range at a distance of approximately 180 kilometers from the city of Santiago de Cuba and just 75 from Bayamo, the provincial capital of Granma.
It is characterized by its fine-grained sands, however, these are of a grey-brown variety rather than white like the immense majority of sandy beaches scattered across the rest of the Cuban territory. The visitor will behold gorgeous landscapes enhanced by the confluence of the turquoise blue of the sea and the verdure of the mountains close by. It also provides the opportunity to enjoy numerous diving sites and revel in submarine contemplation.
In its vicinities lie the hotels Club Amigo Marea del Portillo and the Farallón del Caribe Hotel.
