The highest elevation in Cuba standing at 1974 meters above sea level. The peak lends its name to a park national grouping other elevations of over 1300 meters in altitude that harbors an exuberant wealth of vegetation and fauna. The Pico Turquino offers visitors the option of ascending by means of excursions contracted on site of a duration of 3 days and two nights.
The ascent can begin via Santiago de Cuba or Granma, the latter being the more recommendable trail, since it presents a less rugged terrain for the climb. At its summit one finds a bust of José Martí, Cuba’s national hero.
