Declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO since 1987, it is located in western Cuba, 94 kilometers from the city of Pinar del Río in the westernmost part of the Municipality of Sandino. The Guanahacabibes Peninsula National Park is also known for María la Gorda.
The 12,572-hectare reserve with exceptional flora and fauna protects wildlife and forests, with a large number of plants, mammals, reptiles, and bird species, many of them endemic to Cuba and in danger of extinction.
There are also a large number of caves such as the Cueva de las Perlas and marshy areas with abundant lagoons and mangroves.
For all this, ecotourism and water activities such as scuba diving are the most attractive for visitors.
To visit the park it is necessary to have a guide.
