Housed in one of the constructions sited in the town’s Historical City Center. The current building was raised in 1921 over the remains of a former military garrison used by the Spaniards in the colonial era that had been destroyed following the torching of the city ordered by the independence fighters in 1897. It is the most noteworthy building of eclectic style in the city.
The museum possesses a general outlook and owns seven permanent exhibition rooms and one transitory, showcasing the History, Natural Sciences and culture of the community.
