Located about twelve kilometers from the “Pearl of the South”, east of the Bay of Cienfuegos and with an area of 2.2 km² is this lagoon formed by the Arimao River.
Surrounded by mangroves, it forms an authentic natural paradise within the only protected area in the province. It is inhabited by different types of migratory birds and it is the largest refuge for the pink flamingo with a colony of more than 200 specimens that, together with two species of migratory ducks, constitute the representative bird fauna of the place. There also inhabit other species such as the gannet, the tocororo, the hummingbird and the woodpecker, as well as several species of mammals and amphibians, reptiles, fish and crustaceans.
It is one of the favorite attractions for ecotourism lovers where you can go hiking and take water tours.
