Fusterlandia is situated in the coastal village of Jaimanitas, to the west of Havana. The place is essentially the fruit of the imagination of plastic artist José Rodríguez Fuster who first decorated his own house and interior gardens in a very singular manner and later on extended his creative mosaics on to the surroundings of his home.
The exteriors of about 80 houses in the community have been covered from ground to roof with glazed tiles of varied, bright colors forming a particular and outsized imagery, exotic characters born of the fertile imagination of the artist. It is said that the artist, when setting out to develop Fusterlandia, drank in the influence of Gaudí modernism, the great Catalonian artist. Others class his work within the plastic aesthetics of Naïf.
